LINE

TEXTURE
The feel of a surface. Physical or Visual
COLOUR
What the eye sees when light is reflected off an object.
Having hues, intensity and value. The most expressive element of art.
SPACE
The area around, between and through the images (negative space) and/ or objects in a work of art. (positive space)(include watching out for merges in photography and use of simple backgrounds)
-Creation of depth in an artwork (Include-foreground, middleground, background) aerial perspective, perspective. Use of framing in the foreground especially in photography.)
PRINCIPLES
Definition
BALANCE
Weighting of objects within a composition. Include symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial symmetry.
EMPHASIS
Area in an artwork that eye is drawn to (focal point). Include the use of dynamic thirds, use of colour, size of objects, directional lines
RHYTHM
The repetition of an element of design to create movement
MOVEMENT
The direction the eye moves through a work of art.
PROPORTION
Size of objects/images in relation to one another in an artwork
PATTERN
The repetition of an element of design.
VARIETY CONTRAST
Elements have differences, which creates interest in the artwork.
UNITY/ HARMONY
Elements have a sense of consistency with each other (harmony).
